Universal Credit: Chairs of Public Accounts and Work & Pensions Committees call for statement from Employment Minister

The Chairs of the Public Accounts (PAC) and Work and Pensions (WPC) Committees today call on the Government to provide better information to Parliament and the public on the decision to bring forward the date for migrating income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) claimants to Universal Credit (UC).

Update: Following the Committee Chairs’ request for an update, Employment Minister Jo Churchill MP subsequently published a written ministerial statement on the 21st May 2024. You can read the statement here.
PAC Chair Dame Meg Hillier MP and WPC Chair Rt Hon Sir Stephen Timms MP have written to Jo Churchill MP, Minister for Employment, asking for a written ministerial statement on points including the rationale for the changes, their likely costs, and what measures the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are taking to support those affected.
